Zanzibar is one of Tanzania's best-known beach destinations and a popular extension after safari. The island sits in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of mainland Tanzania, and is known for sandy beaches, coral reefs, warm water, and the history of Stone Town.
A Zanzibar holiday can be relaxed, active, or a mix of both. You can spend time on the beach, explore Stone Town, visit spice farms, see Jozani Forest, take a boat trip, or add water activities such as snorkelling, diving, deep-sea fishing, kayaking, windsurfing, water-skiing, sailing on a traditional dhow, or swimming with dolphins. The sample itinerary is 6 days, but the stay can be shortened or extended.

Your Zanzibar sample itinerary
Arrival in Zanzibar
Arrive at Zanzibar Airport, meet your guide or driver, and transfer to Dhow Inn or a similar hotel. Check in for 2 nights in a double room with sea-view or pool-view room on a bed and breakfast basis.
Guided Stone Town
After breakfast, start a guided Stone Town tour at 09:00. Explore narrow streets, historical buildings, carved doors, and sites connected to Zanzibar's Arab, Swahili, Indian, and European influences, then return to the hotel around noon.
Spice Tour and Beach Resort
Depart at 10:00 for Mapenzi Beach Resort or a similar hotel on the northeast coast. On the way, take a spice tour to learn about tropical spices, fruits, and local plants, then check in for 3 nights on an all-inclusive basis.
Beach Relaxation
Spend these days relaxing at the hotel and beach. Additional activities can be adjusted depending on your interests, available time, and budget.
Departure
Transfer from the hotel to Zanzibar Airport for your departure. The itinerary can also connect with a safari or be extended with more beach nights.
