This 5-day Tanzania camping safari is a budget-friendly private route for families, friends, and small groups who want wildlife, open landscapes, and a more adventurous style of travel.
This itinerary visits Tarangire National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti National Park, and Lake Natron. It combines classic northern Tanzania game drives with a more remote Lake Natron ending, where you may have time for an evening lake walk, waterfall visit, or Oldoinyo Lengai activity depending on conditions and flight timing.
You travel with a local safari guide, camping support, organised meals, and a day-by-day route that can still be adjusted where nature, weather, roads, and timing require it.

Planet Lodge

Katikati Camps

Your 5-day itinerary
Arrival Day
You will be met on arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport, then transferred to your hotel for dinner and overnight.
Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, your safari begins with a drive to Tarangire National Park for a game drive and picnic lunch. Tarangire is known for elephant herds, baobab trees, and wildlife movement around the Tarangire River.
Ngorongoro Crater
After breakfast, transfer to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and descend into the crater for a game drive. The crater supports varied wildlife and is one of Tanzania's best places to look for black rhinos, depending on the day.
Into the Serengeti
Depart for Serengeti National Park through Karatu and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. As the highlands open into the plains, continue toward the central Serengeti for an afternoon game drive.
Serengeti to Lake Natron
After an early breakfast, enjoy a morning game drive in the Serengeti, then continue with game viewing along the route where possible. Exit at Klein's Gate and travel to Lake Natron for dinner and overnight.
Lake Natron to Arusha
Depending on conditions and flight timing, there may be time for Lake Natron activities such as an evening walk, waterfall visit, or Oldoinyo Lengai option. Afterward, transfer back to Arusha for airport drop-off. An extra Arusha overnight can be arranged on request at additional cost.
