Locally guided Kilimanjaro trekking
The 8-day Lemosho Route approaches Kilimanjaro from the western side and gives more time for acclimatisation than shorter Lemosho schedules.
The route starts quietly through rainforest before reaching the Shira Plateau. From Shira 2 Camp, it joins the Southern Circuit through Barranco, Karanga, Barafu, the summit zone, and down to Mweka Gate. The longer profile can support acclimatisation, but summit success still depends on fitness, pacing, altitude response, weather, and guide assessment.

Your 8-day Lemosho itinerary
Arrival in Arusha
You will be picked up at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to your arranged hotel in Arusha. You will meet your guide for a trek briefing and equipment check. Missing mountain gear can be rented on this day.
Lemosho Forest Start
After breakfast, transfer to Lemosho Gate on the western side of Kilimanjaro. After registration, the climb begins through the forest of the Lemosho Glades and continues to Big Tree Camp for the night.
Moorland to Shira 1
Trek across grassy moorland and heather with volcanic rock formations. The day ends at Shira 1 Camp, where there are often views of Kibo Peak in clear weather.
Shira Plateau Acclimatisation
Continue across the Shira Plateau with views toward Kibo and, in good weather, the western side of the mountain. In the afternoon, take an acclimatisation walk before returning to camp.
Lava Tower and Sleep Lower
Climb into the upland desert zone and reach Lava Tower at 4,640 m before descending to Barranco Camp. This climb-high, sleep-lower day is useful for acclimatisation.
Barranco Wall and Karanga
Descend into the Great Barranco and climb the Barranco Wall, a steep but non-technical section. Continue through Karanga Valley to Karanga Camp.
Rest Before Summit Night
Walk to Barafu Camp at 4,640 m, then eat, hydrate, rest, and prepare for the summit attempt. Eat, hydrate, rest, and prepare for a summit start around midnight.
Summit Attempt
Start around midnight and climb toward Stella Point. Climbers who are strong enough, well acclimatised, and cleared by the guide continue to Uhuru Peak before descending to Mweka Camp.
Final Descent
Descend through rainforest to Mweka Gate for park formalities and certificates where applicable, then return to your arranged hotel in Moshi for rest after the climb.
