Marangu is a large village located on the lower slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. Marangu is a lively market town with a cool climate. The location of the town makes it an ideal starting point for hiking.
At the base of Mt Kilimanjaro, surrounded by lush landscapes, lie hidden waterfalls. After a short drive of about 45mins in a private car to one on the most popular waterfall sites, “Marangu Waterfalls”, it is possible to explore the forest and discover the waterfalls on foot.
The “Marangu Waterfalls” is located on the slope of Mt. Kilimanjaro national park, is also an excellent location for hiking, bird watching, and taking in the sights of rural Africa. The cultural tourism program offers the opportunity for visitors to watch traditional blacksmiths, visit nearby caves and waterfalls as well as experience life in the local chagga tribe. People around Marangu village are very welcoming and we hope you will enjoy your time with them. While in Marangu one can learn more about the chagga culture by visiting a traditional chagga house made of straw roofing. During this day excursion, your guide will lead you through a number of small agricultural villages with lush landscapes, where the locals sell a variety of goods such as coffee, maize, bananas, and other types of fruits and vegetables.
Upon arrival at the park where the famous Mt. Meru waterfall in Arusha, Tanzania is located, an armed guard will escort you and your guide to see this incredible natural wonder. Enjoy the cool waterfall mist and relax in a beautifully shaded area while taking in the sites. Be sure to bring your camera to take some breathtaking photos!.
MATERUNI VILLAGE TOUR + WATERFALLS
Materuni waterfalls are located at Meteruni Village in Moshi. Going to Materuni waterfalls you can have two options as means of your transport between Arusha or Moshi town and the village… For those who really wish to have the ‘real’ experience, you can hop on a dala dala (the local minibusses. If you’d prefer to travel more quickly and comfortably you can choose to take a private car. Once you reach the village you will start your coffee tour at a traditional Chagga ‘shamba’.
Your guide will explain all aspects of the Chagga homestead including the other crops that they grow aside from coffee. You will get to see how the coffee is produced- from picking the bean to roasting and then drinking a delicious cup yourself. Following your coffee tour, you will then take a short hike (make sure to wear some sport or Mountain boots, shoes as it can be muddy up there), passing through local villages to reach the waterfalls. Here you will either have a picnic lunch box or arrive in a full spread of freshly cooked lunch prepared for one of the local families, Following lunch, you will have the opportunity to take a dip in the refreshing(quite cold!) pools beneath the waterfalls.
